Finnish Foreign Minister Haavisto did not rule out the possibility of joining NATO without Sweden.
Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto said that, his country is ready to continue joining the NATO bloc without Sweden, if Stockholm's application is postponed. He told about this in an interview with Yle.
According to Haavisto, Finland may have to reconsider the promotion of the NATO membership application, at the same time as Sweden, if Sweden's application is delayed for a long period of time.
At the same time, he noted that it is too early to take a position on, whether Finland will act independently in the process of joining NATO. Haavisto believes that, the number one option from the point of view of the security of Finland, and Sweden is still that, the countries simultaneously seek to join NATO.
On January 21, Rasmus Paludan, who heads the Danish anti-Islamic party Stram Kurs, Hard Course, burned a Koran near the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm. According to the organizer of the action, he burned the holy book of Muslims in protest, because Turkey is preventing Sweden from joining NATO.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that, Sweden cannot count on the support of the Turkish authorities, on the issue of NATO membership after the incident, with the burning of the Koran, at the walls of the Turkish embassy in Stockholm.
