The first ever Russian oil shipment has arrived in Pakistan.
The first batch of oil from Russia has arrived in the Pakistani port of Karachi. This was announced on Sunday, June 11, by the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif on Twitter.
"I have fulfilled one more of my promises to the nation. I am glad to announce that the first cargo of Russian crude oil at a discount has arrived in Karachi and the unloading of oil will begin tomorrow," he wrote.
Sharif called June 11 a "significant day" for Pakistan. The country, he said, is moving towards "prosperity, economic growth and energy security." Russian oil supplies to the country marked the beginning of a new relationship between Moscow and Islamabad, Sharif added.
It is noted that the unloading of oil will begin on June 12.
Russia and Pakistan reached conceptual agreements on the supply of oil and petroleum products at the end of January. As the Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergey Mochalnikov added, the Pakistani side asked all the questions it had on the Pakistani Stream project and received exhaustive answers to them.
On December 26, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak predicted that by the end of 2022, Russian gas exports will decrease by about ¼, and production will fall by 12%. In addition, he mentioned the negotiations on gas supplies to the markets of Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Russian side is also considering the possibility of increasing fuel supplies to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The reason is the growing domestic consumption of the resource in these states.
